Alien:
According to the interviewed people, no agricultural damage has been observed recently in the villages around Troodos (Hadjisterkotis and Heise-Pavlov 2006).
Introduced to the island around 10500 BCE.
Re-introduced in the island in 1990, for game farming. In 1994 and 1996, wild boars were illegally released in Lemesos (Limassol) Forest and in the Troodos National Forest Park. In 1997, the government of Cyprus decided to eradicate wild boar because of the danger of transmitting diseases to livestock and to prevent possible environmental destruction. In 2004-2005, no animals were observed in surveyed areas and localities where they had been seen before. (Hadjisterkotis and Heise-Pavlov 2006).
