On grassy paths, road verges, lawns and garden beds, occasionally in moist places by springs & streams; sea-level to 500' - commonly used as a grass substitute for lawns on Cyprus - noted for several locations, though none in Division 3.
Alien:
Introduced during the Anglocracy (1878-1959) (Georgiades 1995).
Note that this taxon is listed as Phyla canescens by Hand et al. (2011), but the Catalogue of Life and GBIF give the accepted name as P. nodiflora var. minor.
However, Phyla nodiflora var. nodiflora is considered native to Cyprus, and features in its Red Data Book. More broadly, however, the native range of P. nodiflora is subject to some controversy, and some consider it to be a weed of humid habitats in warm temperate and sub-tropical regions.
The name Lippia filiformis Schrad. has also been used in the literature on Cyprus.
As Phyla filiformis (Schrad.) Meikle in Georgiades (1995).
