Alien: Commonly grown as an evergreen hedge and is not infrequent as an escape or relic of cultivation. Growing well in garigue and maquis vegetation in some parts of Episkopi area, with Akrotiri among the listed sites.
Adventive to Cyprus that occurs in hedges, field magins, roadsides and sometimes in scrublands (Tsintides et al. 2002).
Although reported as "naturalized invasive" no negative impacts have been registered.
Introduced by British colonials during the first years of the 20th century.
