Between 1965 and 1968, 30,205 H. gelechiae were introduced from the USA into Cyprus (CIBC 1970). According to Sankaran and Girling (1980), the species established permanently, but it was not reported to be present in Cyprus by Yu et al. (2005). No information on the impact of H. gelechiae on P. operculella was found.
