Alien:
Reduced performance of host plants Citrus spp. The citrus Ieafminer, Phvllocnistis citrella (Stainton), was first observed in Cyprus in 1994. Chemical control of this pest is considered justified only for the protection of stock in nurseries, newly scaffold-budded trees and young citrus groves, which are practically in continuous vegetative growth from spring onwards, and consequently are exposed to Ieafminer infestation. In producing citrus groves, biological control and application of suitable cultural practices is expected to provide satisfactory control. [...] It spread rapidly on the island seriously attacking new vegetative growth in citrus orchards. [...] Under Cyprus conditions it completes 11 to 12 generations/ year (Orphanides, personal communication) (Iordanou and Charalambous 1998).
