Habitat detail

"Specimens from Cyprus : Kolossi, roadsides and field margins, 1998, Hadjikyriakou 3849 [3]; Ezousa river near Acheleia, roadside, 1999, Hadjikyriakou 3966 [31; Argaka - Pomos, field margins and roadsides, 1998 - 2002, Hadjikyriakou observ. [2]; Trachoni - Polemidia, 1998 - 2002, Hadjikyriakou observ. [3]. Pennisetum purpureum Schum., is recorded from Cyprus for the first time. Certainly introduced to Cyprus for wind breaks (that is why it occurs mostly along margins of orange groves) and probably for fodder. Now it regenerates well at many places at Lemesos and Pafos Districts, at an altitude up to 50 m. Undoubtedly Pennisetum purpureum Schum., is considered as naturalized" (Hadjikyriakou et al. 2004).
