Alien: var. sativum in gardens and cultivated ground, or an escape from cultivation. Ssp. elatius: a) var. elatius in vineyards and waste ground 3000-4000' only noted for Division 2 where probably introduced as a food plant; b) var. brevipedunculatum in vineyards and waste ground 3500-4000', also only Division 2; c) var. pumilio in cereal fields, roadsides, gardens and waste ground, sea level to 1000' including Akrotiri in Division 3.
