In man-made habitats such as parks, gardens, roadsides and archaeological sites (Georgiades 1995).
Alien: Seen in gardens in Nicosia & elsewhere - Meikle makes no allusion to escaped or naturalised sites (Meikle 1985).
An adventive species, cultivated in Cyprus as ornamental in gardens and parks, appearing as naturalised near inhabited areas - Pafos, Lemesos and Lefkosia (Tsintides et al. 2002).
Efforts to widely plant the species were undertaken during the Anglocracy (1878-1959) as the plant is used by bees in apiculture (Georgiades 1995).
